New York City has not seen a basketball championship from the Knicks since 1973.
The last time the Knicks were in the Finals was 1999.
I was born on June 2008. That means in my entire life I have never seen a Knicks championship. I have never seen the Knicks in the Finals.
And I have only ever seen them out of the second round of the playoff twice: this year and last year.
We know that the biggest change with the Knicks started with the introduction of one man Jalen Brunson.
Jalen Brunson came to the Knicks in 2022 as a role player. The Knicks signing Brunson was one of the most controversial deals in Knicks history with people like Stephan A. Smith saying they overpaid for him.
To be honest back then this flew over my head. The Knicks were just nothing but garbage.
But the feeling around the Knicks shifted in the early 2020s as the Knicks began beating teams and began making it deeper in the playoffs. I, a Knicks fan, was ecstatic.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. I remember when we faced the Pacers in the Conference Finals in 2024 and lost. We lost and Tyrese Haliburton rubbed it in our face by doing the choking pose. As a Knicks fan this was personal as the choking pose was started by Reggie Miller in 1994 when we lost to the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. I started to wonder if we would ever win the Finals.

Here in the present, the Knicks matched up against the Cavaliers after sweeping the 76ers 4-0 and we swept them as well 4-0. I can speak for all Knicks fans when I say this brought tears to my eyes. I mean, there was a time when this team was so trash that when you mentioned NYC’s team all you thought of was the Brooklyn Nets.
We Knicks fans have 53 years of longing for another Championship and now the time is finally here. The Finals start tonight!
The only fear in my heart currently is Wembyama, a 7 ‘4 center with a 8 feet wingspan. He and his team the Spurs knocked out OKC the previous NBA champions and they had the 3 time MVP Shai Gildous Alexander. I guess only time will tell if we can hang with the Spurs or not.
For now though, I would like to personally thank Karl Anthony Towns, also known as KAT, for his amazing performance as a center because outside of Jalen Brunson he leads the offense. He does this by providing the Knicks with clutch 3 point shots and free throws whenever they are done, which happens a lot.
I would also like to thank Josh Hart as he’s able to keep the ball moving and is why the ball falls into Brunson and KAT’s hands.
Mikal Bridges I must thank you too for your scoring as you always manage to get the ball up no matter how little time is left on the clock.
But I truly don’t know how to thank Jalen Brunson because he’s the leader of this great team. Ever since he came to the Knicks they have become a team that actually demonstrates championship potential.
No matter what happens it will always be GO KNICKS!!!!
