Assuming whoever reading this is a New Yorker, native or not, minding your business is a life skill that is just as important as knowing how to tie your shoes.
Dare I say, it’s required, mandatory, a must have, and everything similar. Keeping your peace is an absolute joy to have. And you should most definitely indulge in minding your business as it has mental health benefits and it’s a super easy activity to do.
It’s truly a joy to mind your own business.
How can we mind our business? It’s not a difficult task at all, there are many efficient methods that can be practiced and I will try to list a few.
If there is a messy situation happening among your relationships that genuinely has nothing to do with you, like there’ll be no effect on your life but maybe a minor headache and minutes of your life wasted, well then, not involving yourself is incredibly easy. Don’t put yourself in a situation that you have no business being in.

Avoid questions as inquiring is the easiest bait to reel you in. Avoid learning things you don’t want to know if you can help it as this is an important part of minding your business. At first you believe you’re just a listener, but quickly you turn into a key figure. If it has nothing to do with you, don’t bother. Keep it pushing and think of YOUR issues.
Slow down, let’s reel back for a minute. Now, maybe you’re facing the worst case scenario. There’s something going on that you just can NOT dismiss. Do not be a bystander. There’s like- whole laws about it. It’s not like confrontation must be your first choice. There’s ways to be helpful and passive and avoid being complicit while minding your own business.
Are you nosy, do you like living through others, are you bored? This is the perfect one for you. One of my favorite methods to do without becoming involved is eavesdropping. (Un)Fortunately you don’t have a button to turn off your ears. This takes acting and willpower to keep a straight face. Treat it like a personal podcast. The heated argument nearby will sound like music to your ears. Or even a real life drama just for your viewing pleasure.
