Milani is an 8th grader who plans to go to her grandparent’s house in Connecticut. They plan on having a big feast. At the table there will be mac and cheese, collard greens, fried chicken, pernil, arroz con gandules, frijoles, bacalao, and crab legs. She looks forward to eating all the sugar cookies. While dinner is happening she likes listening to “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. She also says, “I look forward to opening presents with my sister.” She hopes to get a new phone and a flight to Honduras. She enjoys Christmas and the only thing she doesn’t like is the weather because of how cold it is.
On Christmas Eve, freshman Merelyn celebrates by hosting a big family dinner with lots of food like lasagna, rice and pernil. She also enjoys listening to Christmas songs like “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano. She opens presents at 12:00am and is hoping for a plush monkey. “I enjoy spending quality time with family,” she says. She likes Christmas because it brings everyone together and appreciates the memories they make that day.
On Christmas Eve, Mr Medina spends time with his side of the family. He likes to eat things like pozole and tostadas but hates having to clean up the mess that is made. “Christmas is a time you should spend with loved ones and cherish moments together,” he says. On Christmas he and his family spend time with his wife’s side of the family. They wake up early to open presents with the kids. He wants enough money to be able to book a flight and leave the country.
Michael is a junior who plans on spending time with family and hosting a big dinner the day of Christmas Eve. He loves having yams during dinner but with all his plans he also has to make sure he completes all of his school work. He says, “I like presents. ” He also says he wants for him and his family to be healthy. He loves watching “Home Alone” to get into the holiday season. The only thing he doesn’t like about the holiday season is the weather.
On Christmas, senior, Jovanni goes to a family gathering and throughout the break goes to lots of religious gatherings. For Christmas, he wants a new piercing, skin care, clothes, and a new bike helmet. He is very open minded when it comes to food so he will eat anything. He says, “I love the aesthetic of Christmas.” To get into the holiday spirit he watches movies like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Polar Express”. He especially loves listening to the songs in the movie. The only thing that he does mind is the cold especially when it’s to the point where he is shivering.
