I want them to see, the hard work and sweat,
The long hours and dedication, I’ll never forget,
The moments of doubt, and the fear in my heart,
But the courage and strength, to make a new start.
For perfection is just an illusion, a mirage,
A standard we set, to live up to and barrage,
But the truth is, it’s the imperfections that define,
The beauty in our lives, and what makes us shine.
I want them to know, that I’ve earned my place,
Through hard work, perseverance, and grace,
That my journey may have been tough and long,
But it’s made me stronger, and given me a song.
One that I can sing to.
Author’s Words:
The poem is supposed to represent the desire that many often feel when trying to make others understand their efforts and dedication towards achieving their goals. The obstacles and efforts aren’t often considered when commenting on someone’s success and progression over time hence many minimize the efforts. In this poem I made sure to mention the moments of doubt and fear that I’ve encountered from a multitude of experiences. Although I’m well aware that my community tends to solely judge me based on my accomplishments, I want to emphasize that I, just like them, have faced moments of uncertainty and hesitation. By sharing this poem, my aim is to motivate and encourage them to persevere in the face of adversity.
