On May 28th, 2025 students attended the Broadway musical Floyd Collins at Lincoln Center thanks to a partnership between Lincoln Center Education and HS223
The musical tells the story of Floyd Collins, a young man who tries to build his wealth and prestige by looking for a cave her can turn into a tourist attraction. Sadly for him, Collins becomes trapped in the cave and is stuck there for 17 days before dying dying.
The show focuses on the trapped Collins and the people above who are trying to get him out including the media coverage which was so great that Collins became the biggest story in America.
40 students, a mixture of Juniors and Sophomores, attended the trip. Many were swayed to attend because of the main star, Jeremy Jordan, who some students had seen in The Great Gatsby on Broadway. Jordan’s songs in Floyd Collins were emotional and powerful and left a profound affect on students.

“Although he was sitting for majority of the play, he still truly gave it his all,” said Junior Michelle Montalvo. “I loved his tones and expressions through out the whole time, even when he was doing nothing at all.”
Additionally, the sets were impressive. Actors did a great job “digging” into the cave and used different objects to show characters climbing in and out of it.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the show,” said by junior Jaslene Elegar “Especially with the songs that sound great and the visuals when the carnival scene was happening. As well when Floyd had passed and the rest of the cast was dressed in white”.
Overall students had a good experience and Broadway trips are always something students look forward to and would agree to wanting even more!
But it was the emotion of the play that will stay with the students long after they left Lincoln Center. Junior Nancy Bortoli summed it up saying, “I cried.”
