Love is in the air at HS 223! Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a special someone or celebrating Galentine’s, there’s something for everyone on February 14th. Whether you’re looking for an affordable and fun date spot, or the perfect gift; In Valentines Day 101, we cover everything you need to know.
Before we get into the nitty gritty, we have to address the elephant in the room? Do you have to ask someone to be your Valentine or not? The writers of the Eagle Express have debated this topic. Our answer? Of course! No matter if you’re in a budding relationship or a long term one, asking your special someone to be your Valentine is the first step. But don’t just take our word for it, one of our writers: Jomar Perez decided to do some investigative journalism and see how our school community answers this question. You can view it on our school Instagram page. Click to view the Instagram Page of the 223 Eagles!
So you’ve asked someone to be your Valentine, but now what? Assuming they’ve said yes, you have to find the perfect date spot. We’ve made a list of local spots that are easy to get to and easy on a high school student’s pockets. Here are some of our personal favorites:
Boba Tea Time – 436 E 149th St, Bronx, NY
Price Range: $6-10 per person
This is an amazing date spot for you and your partner to sit, relax, and overall just have a calm evening, especially if you just want to be in each other’s company without having to do too much. Tea Time is seasonally available and decorated as well so go take some cute pictures with your partner!
Bronx Documentary Center – 614 Courtlandt Avenue, Bronx, NY
Price Range: Free!
On February 14th, the Bronx Documentary Center is offering free Valentine’s Day Portraits from 1-3pm! Whether you would like to take a picture with your significant other, a friend or a family member, you’ll be able to get a cute keepsake to remember Valentine’s Day 2025. The Bronx Documentary Center is a less than 10 minute walk from the school, making it a perfect place to go after school this Friday.
Mottley Kitchen – 402 E 140th St, Bronx, NY
Price Range: $10-20 per person
Mottley Kitchen is a cafe, only a couple blocks away from our school. They have an assortment of delicious pastries, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, and unique beverages. My personal favorites are the Smoky BBQ Chicken Sandwich and the Ginger Peach Iced Tea. Mottley Kitchen also has indoor and outdoor rooftop seating.
Pier 35 – FDR Dr, New York, NY 10002
Price Range: Free!
This pier has amazing views of the Manhattan bridge but is a bit far! You can have a fun time on the swings, take really cute pictures, enjoy the view, and have picnics with your partner as well.
The Mall at Bay Plaza – 200 Baychester Ave
Price Range: $10-50 (Prices may vary)
The Bay Plaza Mall is a perfect place to go and have a busy night with your partner, though the mall is a little far. In the Bay Plaza Mall you can go to the AMC Theater, walk around the mall to shop and talk and even go to the local food spots like Chick-fil-a, Chipotle, and Auntie Annes.
We hope that you found a Valentines Day Spot to enjoy with the ones you love. Happy Valentines Day from the Eagle Express Newspaper Team!
