On Wednesday, October 23rd 11th grade saw the hit Broadway show Hamilton.
Thanks to the Gilder Lehrman Institute, about 30 members of the junior classwere able to go on this trip. The Gilder Lehrman Institute is an organization that specializes in a couple of different programs but the main thing right here is “Hamilton Education” where it teams up with schools and gets tickets so students are able to see Hamilton in a way that’s still educational!
Part of the process for getting tickets required students to do a project based on the American Revolution. Students were able to see this show by making a fun creative project based on the american revolution! Some students were very creative with making raps, poems, and art pieces! There were many different ways students were able to show their creativity and their thoughts on the American revolution! This is super amazing and was able to bring light to a bunch of creative students who wanted to do something fun while also learning about something in history. Evan Espionza ’26 had done an amazing job with this project with drawing the original voice for Aaron Burr for their project.
The trip was used as a way to bring in more information on the American Revolution to students, and while the trip was a fun experience it was also a nice way to learn more about the history of America in a more fun and unique way.
Starting at 1 and ending around 4:30 with a Q&A section it’s safe to say a lot of students and as well as teachers really enjoyed the show!
Salima Ceesay, a junior who went on the trip claimed “It was the most life changing experience! It truly changed my life!” Another Junior Jaslene Elegar claimed “It was a very nice experience to see such a great performance and wonderful songs. It was also cool to see a different cast performing than the one I’m so very familiar with.”
On the other hand even with students enjoying the show some students found some things off about the show, Mia Sorden a Junior had said “I did not like Aaron Burr’s voice! It did not fit the character and it threw me off.” but she did enjoy the show. Many students still found some part they enjoyed! But not just students, teachers were also on the trip! Even some teachers who didn’t know anything about Hamilton found themselves enjoying the experience. 11th grade teacher Mr Khan had stated “I thought it was really cool to be a part of an enthusiastic audience! It was really nice to see the students being able to sing along to their favorite songs.”
The show was a success! It was fun, entertaining and was a great learning experience for all students! Students who didn’t like it afterwards still found themselves enjoying the show and going along with the amazing songs. Students who did already love Hamilton found a deeper connection with a show they already loved and teachers were able to go and find joy in it somehow as well!
So Hamilton was a RAGING success.
