Students at our school love food, and students are always trying to find the cheapest, best, and most delicious food in the Bronx. Throughout this article, we will share some of the best cheap eats spots as recommended by students.
Foo Hing Kitchen, the first cheap eats spot offers delicious Chinese food. One student we interviewed, Deborah Akintunde ‘27, said “I’m a huge foodie, and I eat at this place almost every day after school.” With the average meal from this Chinese restaurant costing somewhere between $10-$12 and its proximity to the school, there’s no wonder why it’s such a hit amongst MSHS223 students.
We interviewed star basketball player, Brianna Brito ‘25 and she told us her favorite cheap eats spot was Mamajuana Cafe. She recommended the chicken breast with rice and avocado and a side of Tres leches dessert. The average meal cost at Mamajuana Cafe is around $10-$14, making it one of the more expensive on the list, but still relatively cheap and a great option with a ton of food variety.
Although the sign in the picture might beg to
differ, starting as of September 1st, 2023, the price of this pizza has changed to $1.50. This pizza is a complimentary and known spot to any student at HS223, and if you never have tried it, plenty of students would highly recommend this pizza shop above all others.
While there are plenty of pizza shops in the Bronx, this one seems to be a favorite with 223 Students due to its proximity to the school, affordability, and delicious taste. One student, Denzel Ocampo ‘27, had a strong opinion on why this is the best spot in the Bronx when he told us “I hate how they raised the price to $1.50 from $1.00 but I still love this place. No other spot in the Bronx can compare.”
Cougar Nation is a staple deli that lives inside the hearts of most if not all of the students in our high school. This corner store provides great service, friendly employees, and great prices. A great item that is always recommended to get at this store is the bacon egg and cheese. One freshman, Jared Henriquez, said “The bacon egg, and cheese from this place might just be the best one in the whole city.” Prices from this place are pretty cheap. For example, the average bacon egg and cheese + beverage combo costs about $6-8.
Although these cheap eats spots aren’t exactly Michelin star restaurants, they are still spots which are always in the hearts of students of our school. Beware, you may not like the places that were listed and that’s fine. It’s up to you to create your own opinions and make your own decisions, but we highly recommend you give all these spots a try.
