The Lady Cougars season has unfortunately ended in the first round of the playoffs.
A season that started with high hopes in late August, ended early in the playoffs.
“Start of the season, like every season. The girls are rusty, and they still need to learn rotations. But it’s always a slow start.” stated D’Amore (Girls Volleyball Coach).
Despite this slow start, this season was one of the most successful seasons in volleyball history. They ended off the season with 8 wins and 2 losses.
“Overall very successful, finishing 8-2, we got invited to a B-Tournament, which is very honorable, we were the only Bronx team to represent. Plus, we made it to the playoffs.” said D’Amore.
However, things took a turn during the playoffs. In the beginning, the Lady Cougars were playing pretty well, but later people stopped communicating with one another which led to issues.
“Communication was the main thing that kinda messed it up. People were getting frustrated and when everybody got frustrated they lost the momentum they had and it just went downhill.” stated Jaynesali Smith (HS ‘27)
The Lady Cougars lost both sets with a score of 0-2.
Despite the loss, the future is still bright for the Lady Cougars.
“I only see the program growing in a positive way. There’s been middle school development which is being put in place. When we find interested players, we give them the opportunity to play which gives them the experience they need.” said D’amore.
